Re-analyze and the read-reuse rule

Re-running the same symbol, timeframe and lens before a new bar can exist returns the previous read instead of spending allowance. The refresh fetches new candles but cannot conjure a new bar, and identical inputs necessarily produce an identical read.

The reuse rule

A prior read is reused when the symbol, the timeframe and the lens all match and the read is younger than two bar-lengths of its own timeframe. Nothing is charged for a reused read.

The window is expressed in bars rather than minutes because that is the unit the engine actually cares about. Two bar-lengths on the 1D chart is two days; on the 5m chart it is ten minutes. In both cases it is the span in which a genuinely new answer is not yet possible.

What Re-analyze does

It fetches fresh candles. When a new closed bar has appeared, the read is genuinely new and is charged as one. When none has, the fetch returns the same bars and the same read comes back.

This is why the button can look like it did nothing. It did what it could: it asked. The market had not yet produced anything to change the answer.

Why only closed bars

The forming bar is dropped before the engine sees it. A bar still being written has an open, a high and a low that are all provisional, and grading it produces a read that changes underneath you for reasons that have nothing to do with your analysis.

Interaction with the candle cache

Candles are cached with a time-to-live per timeframe, so a re-fetch inside that window is served from cache and returns the same bars by a second route. The two mechanisms agree by design.

Frequently asked

Does pressing Re-analyze spend one of my daily analyses?
Only when a new read is actually possible. Inside the reuse window — before a new bar can exist for that symbol, timeframe and lens — the previous read is returned and nothing is charged.
Why did Re-analyze return exactly the same grade?
Because the inputs were identical. The engine is deterministic on a given set of closed bars, so until a new bar closes there is no new evidence and therefore no new answer. Returning a different grade would mean the grade was partly noise.
