An opening range breakout defines a high and low from the first minutes of a session, then trades a break of that range. The premise is that the opening auction establishes the day's initial balance, and a decisive move beyond it tends to continue.

A breakout retest waits for price to break a level, then enters when price returns to that broken level and holds it. It trades fewer opportunities than the breakout itself in exchange for a defined invalidation and a materially better entry price.
